SHELTON, Washington – OrangeCat Racing’s Josh Herrin raced his electric Lightfighter V3-RH to two top-five finishes at Ridge Motorsports Park in Washington, climbing to seventh in the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship despite missing the first two races of the season.

Race two on Sunday was the highlight for Herrin and OrangeCat Racing as he led laps three, four, and five, and was just .488 of a second from a podium finish in fourth place.

Unfortunately, Herrin’s teammate Kaleb De Keyrel crashed out of the race on the second lap after charging through to the top 10.

While Sunday’s race was held under bright sunshine, Saturday’s race one was the complete opposite as racing was run in wet conditions in Washington.

Things started out on Saturday with Herrin completing the first lap in fourth place. He would stay there for three laps before dropping back to seventh. Herrin bounced back on lap five of eight when he moved up to sixth. He jumped to fifth a lap later, a spot he would hold for the rest of the race.

De Keyrel rode the second Lightfighter to 16th.

With finishes no worse than fifth, Herrin has moved up to seventh in the championship point standings – just 10 points from being in the top five. De Keyrel sits 16th in the championship point standings.

Jeff Connors – Team Principal
“Overall, this was a weekend that showed both the potential of the Lightfighter program and the areas where we need to be better. Josh Herrin had strong pace all weekend, qualifying fourth and racing at the front in both races. He finished fifth in race one in wet conditions and fourth in race two, and he was able to lead laps, which was great to see.

Race one was also the first-ever rain race for the Lightfighter, and the bike held up really well. That was an important milestone for the project and something we can be proud of.

Unfortunately, Kaleb De Keyrel had a very difficult weekend. We dealt with numerous mechanical issues on his bike, and in race one we were late to the grid, which forced him to start from the back. The bike continued to have problems during the race, but Kaleb did everything he could and brought it to the finish. In race two, he had a crash under braking into turn 13 on the opening lap, ending what was already a tough weekend.

It is not acceptable for us to have that many mechanical issues, and Kaleb deserved better from us. We have to take responsibility, learn from it, and make sure we give him the equipment he needs to show what he is capable of.

There were positives to take away, especially with Josh’s pace and the Lightfighter performing well in its first wet race, but we also know we have work to do. We’ll regroup, address the issues, and come back stronger.”

Brian Wismann – CEO and Co-founder, Lightfighter
“What a roller coaster ride for our first time at The Ridge! The rain at the start really disrupted our momentum from Barber, but I’m really proud of the team and riders rising to the challenge to show the Lightfighter belongs at the front of this field no matter the conditions.

Josh battled with the top riders and even led race two but just couldn’t hold on to it through the end. We’ll see if we can give him any more volts for those last laps in the future. Kaleb’s crash in race two was unfortunate but also showed that we can handle these situations safely as the bike and EV powertrain held up well. We’re looking forward to a drier race at our home track at Laguna Seca.”

Kaleb De Keyrel – No. 51
“Overall, it was a really tough weekend at The Ridge. The weather conditions were unpredictable, which gave us very little time to develop a good wet set up or a good dry set up. Unfortunately, I struggled to adapt quickly with the limited track time. I also made a mistake in race two and had an unexpected crash. I am looking forward to Laguna and hopefully we can get momentum rolling in the right direction.”
